German Exchange

Students from St Joseph’s Secondary School, Ballybunion, with their teachers, Ms Fiona Healy and Ms Anne Cummins, at Kerry Airport, setting off for the annual St Joseph’s Secondary School German Exchange with Gymnasium Maria-Koenigin, Lennestadt.

The students will live with a German counterpart for the week. They will go to school and have activities laid on by the school in Germany during the week. The German students in turn will pay a return visit to the Irish schools at the beginning of September when activities will be provided for the group again.

The Exchange, now in its ninth year, is going from strength to strength. Over the years of the Exchange, many links have been made, with some students maintaining contact and visiting one another while former participants from Maria-Koenigin have come to work as German language assistants in St Joseph’s. We wish everyone a safe journey!

The Bear in the Big Blue Bank

St. Joseph’s Secondary School was proud to announce the launch of their school bank ‘The Bear in the Big Blue Bank’ on Wednesday last. GAA celebrity Colm ‘The Gooch’ Cooper made a very special guest appearance on the day to officially open the bank and give the team some valuable advice on financial management. The blue theme of the bank is to highlight the importance of autism awareness. A bake sale was held on the day to raise funds, which will be donated to the ASD Unit at Scoil Íosagáin, Ballybunion. Staff and students from Scoil Íosagáin’s ASD Unit visited St. Joseph’s on the day to celebrate the launch and its wonderful cause. A special thank you to all involved. The school bank team will now go on to compete at the AIB Build a Bank Regionals competition which will be held in Cork in March.
